Diane Arbus

Diane Arbus

Wish I'd seen this before Halloween...

Sushi & Haircuts...

I love eating loads at Yo sushi... I'm sure it's not the best sushi place in the world to eat at... but I've only been 3 times and I love being able to eat smaller amounts of lots of different dishes! NOT TO SELF must try more Sushi places..

I've been known to save my boyfriend Sam from haircut costs over the last couple of years... but once in a while my house mate Claire requests a cut and so, last Tuesday, before she departed for Bali, I gave her a brand new barnet!

It's been over a year since I've been talking about dyeing my hair orange or peach and I still haven't had the balls to do it, Kelly at work did a few photos for me so I got an idea...

Right now I'm in the process of finding cheap food recipes to feed us for the week - after killing the bank account yesterday... I need to take it steady! Whoopsie!

Cosy home..

I have always wanted a cosy home... a place where I can come back to and curl up and relax! I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but where ever my home is and what ever I do.. it never seems as cosy as say it would at my mums house? So I'm on a continual quest to 'cosy up' my house.
Sadly my sofa is not the most cosy and gets cold in the winter.. so I decided to throw over my house mates crochet throw and I found some amazing (well I think so) cushions from Primark for £6 each! I was pretty impressed and I think it made the room seem warmer.

I tried to Christmas shop today - but ended up spending more on me.. whoops, I think I've managed to empty the bank account in 2 days - That's why I hate monthly pay.. I have no self control.
My current Topshop wish list... which I plan on getting next week when Sam gives me his rent money :-D and wearing to the Motel Christmas party - teamed with my vivienne westwood skirt I think!

Le Need's Winter essential...

I think I get SAD when winter comes round - I defiantly prefer the summer... I think I'm more productive in the summer months! So the only thing to keep me going in winter is to focus about what I do love and the essentials I love to whip out my wardrobe and layer with.
As I took this photo a few friends thought they would step in and tell me their winter essentials too!
(Coat - Vintage, Shawl - H&M, Bodice - Topshop, comb over - own)
Amongst many things.. at the moment I can't get this faux fur shawl off every coat I wear! I got it from H&M for the bargain price of £9.99 and as a plus no animals were hurt during this fashion fix!! It goes with literally anything... every coat I haven't wanted to wear to a particular outing is glammed up in a second and no-one ever believes that it's not part of the coat.. and OF COURSE it's warm (like that's the bit I care about?!)
While rummaging through her Granny's belonging's (we all do it now!) Claire -Rose Elf came across this amazing over sized leather case her nan had made for her as a pyjama made by her Nans Aunt- it's such a soft leather and sits so well as an over sized clutch! Claire's teamed it with an oversized chocolate coloured vintage coat. I love the tones this time of year! YUM!
If you haven't already a MUST have item (and Kelly's too!) is the good old camel coat! Kelly 'works it' oversized tieing it in a knot at the waist! Plus you gotto love that 90's black leather bag she snatched up at the Bristol Motel store!

Need more winter essentials in my life.. sigh.. pay day... why aren't you today???

I don't know exact times... but if you're at a store now with the chance to buy! You better grab it while you can! Unless you want to pay a silly amount on e-bay later!

Home Sweet Home...

Baby Oliver ♥

Going home was lovely... I got to catch up with my family and friends.

I spent the Friday evening just chilling about - there's always something so more warm and cosy about being at your folks house.
Saturday I descended upon Ilkeston (horrible town that I grew up in) to do some charity shopping - one of my favourite pass times whenever I'm in a rubbish town.. it seems the worse the area, the better the charity shops! However, much to my disappointment, most of the charity shops had gone, or were 'Bristish heart foundation' or one of the other larger charity shops! They never have the good stuff available.. it's always much newer! Give me the independent, throw anything out on the shop floor charity shops any day!!
Saturday evening I ventured in to Nottingham town centre (it feels like forever since I've been) and met up with my friend Lynch - we had some food and went home. Then I watched 'Into the wild' on TV - man I love that film.
Sunday - Sunday is always Emma day! So after popping to see my dad, collecting the new quilt and pillow set he brought me and Sam for Christmas, I drove to see Emma and beautiful baby Oli (above).
Back in Bristol now - freezing cold... Clothes show coming up next week! At least we have a nice apartment to stay at this time! If you're a motelrocks.com lover then I defiantly advise stopping by our stand, it will be full of bargain basement treats!

Subtle Mob in Bristol

Some people taking part in Subtlemob in Bristol

as if it were the last time’ by Duncan Speakman

Audiences were invited to download an MP3 and turn up at a secret location to listen to the track at a specified time.
On the soundtrack the audience would hear the composed soundtrack along with narration and instructions.

Two MP3 files were made available, so the audience were divided in half. While one group was instructed to perform a simple scene the other group heard this described as if it were a film scene, but they could actually see it happening around them.

Throughout the piece these roles of watcher/performer alternated between the groups, ever increasing in pace until by the end they are all performing/watching simultaneously.

The work was a snapshot image of contemporary Britain, allowing the audience to watch it, reflect on it, and live it. It explored ideas of how mobile technology can create social disconnection in shared public spaces. It also looked for ways to use those same technologies to create connections between strangers and friends, to savour the moment and the temporary space that was created during the performance.

From the project description…
“When you put on the headphones you’ll find yourself immersed in the cinema of everyday life. As the soundtrack swells people in the crowd around you will begin to re-enact the England of today.
Sometimes you’ll just be drifting and watching, but sometimes you’ll be following instructions or creating the scenes yourself. Don’t worry, there will be nothing illegal or embarrassing, sometimes you might be re-enacting moments you’ve seen in films, sometimes you’ll just be playing yourself.
This is no requiem, this a celebratory slow dance, a chance to savour the world you live in, and to see it with fresh eyes.”

‘as if it were the last time’ is dedicated to Paul Walker ( 1979 – 2009 )

Back home to Nottingham

Back home to my mums in Nottingham for the weekend...

... a glass a day... keeps the doctor away!

Valentino and Gap collaboration

As if recently H&M and Lavin wasn't enough... now we have Gap and Valentino!
Described as easy to wear basics with a twist!

Valentino always reminds me of this time in Newport - when one of the charity shop women let us go in late one evening and have a rummage through her basement and i brought a vintage Valentino cream and navy polka dress for £15 - i got the sleeves slight altered, it looked gorgeous, but because I lived in Newport, I never dared to wear it! I sold that dress on for £20... whoeever person was... they had a right bargain!!

Looking forward to seeing the collection!

Top button up?

I do love wearing my top button done up - I can never work out what I prefer more? Sometime I feel as though I'm back at school - I wonder if top button done up is now 'cool' at school??

Either way... Jamaican Jerk Sweet Potatoe soup is always a must....

Nom nom... Now back to work...!!

Shirt - H&M
Bodice - Primark (underwear)
Jewellery - Vintage

No wonder Aunt Bessy was always so happy cooking..

So... When it turns wintery, I love to get loads of winter veg and cook a big hot pot. So since returning from my holiday, I thought i'd embrace winter by cooking something i love.
I treated myself to one of those giant yorkshire puddings from Asda to fill my boots with!

When i pulled it out the oven i couldn't help but giggle at what appeared to be in the center of it!

...such a child.

Kids in Glass Houses - Bristol

Got guest list to see old friends play in the O2 academy last night, Kids in glasshouses; I first met these guys about 5 years ago when my ex used to be in a band and gig with them. Back then it was always a good show.. and always a decent local following!
Now packing out the O2 Academy.. touring with bigger bands..headlining their own packed out shows.. constantly on radio one and collaborating with other well known artists! It's crazy!

I didn't half feel old at the gig though... boo!
It's only recently (since not being out that often) that I've noticed when I look around, how young everyone is... then the realisation hits! Its not them.. it's me!
